Question

State the types of motion of the carpenter’s saw.

Open in App
Solution

The motion of saw of a carpenter is an example of mixed motion i.e. combining translational motion with the oscillatory motion.
This is because the carpenter is continuously moving the saw to and fro in a straight line, thereby causing the oscillatory motion. Also while cutting when saw penetrates the wood it translates downward, thereby causing translational motion.
