Step 1: Draw the required figure

Zener diode break down the voltage

Vz=5.6V

The resistors are,

R1=200R2=800

Step 2: Formula used

Ohm's law-

V=IR

where, V,I,R are voltage current and resistance respectively.

Step 3: Calculating the current across an 800Ω resistor

From ohm's law-

A Zener breakdown potential difference across an 800Ω resistor is Vz=5.6V

I2=VzR2

I2 is the current across 800Ω

Now substitute the values Vz,R2

I2=5.6800I2=7mA

Step 4: Calculating the voltage across 200Ohm

The voltage across the resistor is -

V=V-VzV=9-5.6V=3.4V

Step 5:Calculating the current across an 200Ω resistor

The current across a resistor

I1=VR1I1=3.4200I1=17mA

Step 3: Calculate the current through the Zener diode

Note that the current through Zener diode,

from the figure, it is clear that-

I1=IZ+I2

IZ=I1-I2IZ=17mA-7mAIZ=10mA

Therefore the current through Zener diode,IZ=10mA.
