Solution
Placenta: allows diffusion of substances from the mother to the foetus and from the foetus to the mother. It also produces female hormones like oestrogen and progesterone, similar to endocrine glands.
Amnion: it contains a transparent fluid in which the embryo is suspended, thus providing a cushion against mechanical injury. It also provides protection against fluid loss from the embryo itself and against tissue adhesions.
Umbilical cord: it consists of blood vessels and connects the placenta with the foetus, thus facilitating the transfer of materials between the mother and the foetus.
