Bones of the human ear:

The middle ear is indeed an air-filled chamber located inside the skull bone on the other side of the tympanic membrane.

  1. The middle ear contains three small pieces of bones called

(i) Malleus ( Hammer) - Malleus is the greatest three tiny bones present in the mid-ear. It also transfers the vibrations from the eardrum to the internal ear.

(ii) Incus(anvil) - Incus is the center of three tiny bones present in the mid-ear.

(iii) Stapes(stirrup) - Stapes is the third of three small bones present in the internal ear and one is nearest to the inside ear.

2. Together they are known as the ossicles which function to amplify sound.
