Steps of Construction:
1. Draw a line l. Mark a point P on it.
2. Place the metal pointer of the compass on zero mark of the ruler. Open the compass such that the pencil pointer touches the required length of the line segment to be drawn.

3. Place the pointer of compass on P and drawn an arc to cut the line at Q.
PQ is the line segment.
