What are balanced and unbalanced forces? Explain each with two examples.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Balanced forces: If the resultant of all the forces acting on a body is zero then we can call it as balanced forces.
  2. For example, in a tug of war if the force applied by the person on both sides are equal the rope will not move.

3. Balanced forces do not change the state of rest or uniform motion of a body but it can change the shape of the body.

4. For example when we press the balloon using two hands the shape of the balloon changes, and sometimes it breaks also. Here shape of the balloon changed due to the equal force from our hands.

5. Unbalanced force: If the resultant force acting on a body is not zero then the force is called unbalanced force.

6. For example, in tug of war if the rope is pulled by 3 persons on one side and one person at the other end then the rope will move to the side where more force is applied.

7. If we kick a ball it moves from one place to another, this is also due to unbalanced force.
