Open in App
Solution

Chorionic villi:

  1. Chorionic villi are villi that emerge from the chorion to give the greatest amount of surface area for maternal blood contact.
  2. They are an essential component of pregnancy and, by definition, a product of conception from a histomorphologic standpoint.
  3. Embryonic blood is transported to the villi by branches of the umbilical artery.
  4. After passing through the villi's capillaries, blood returns to the embryo via the umbilical vein.
  5. Villi serve as a barrier between maternal and foetal blood throughout pregnancy.
