Chromatin reticulum:

  1. Flemming coined the term "chromatin."
  2. Chromosomes nestle around uncoiled loose strands of a network termed the chromatin reticulum within the nucleus of eukaryotic cells.
  3. These are nucleoprotein fibers and contain DNA, histone proteins, nonhistone proteins, and also RNA.
  4. It is composed of nucleosomes.
  5. During eukaryotic cell division, chromatin condenses to generate chromosomes.
  6. Chromatin exists in two forms - Euchromatin and Heterochromatin.
  7. Euchromatin refers to portions of chromatin that are loosely packed in a nucleus. Euchromatin is transcriptionally active.
  8. Heterochromatin is the chromatin that is more densely packed and transcriptionally inactive.
