Phagocytes are the cells which ingest the pathogens that invade our body and kill them. Example: Neutrophils and macrophages.
The process of ingesting the pathogen and killing them inside the phagocytic cell is called phagocytosis. Thus, phagocytes helps in destroying the disease-causing microorganisms and provide second line of defence.
