Question

What are the 3 steps of RNA processing?

Open in App
Solution

RNA processing:

  1. The precursor messenger RNA (mRNA) transcript constituted of DNA transcription converts to mRNA.
  2. These changes are referred to as mRNA processing, which incorporates 3 main steps.
  • Step 1: 5’ capping: A 7-methylguanosine (m7G) cap is brought to the 5’ give up of the pre-mRNA.
  • Step 2: 3’ polyadenylation: The 3’ give up of pre-mRNA is cleaved, and approximately 250 adenine residues are added to form a poly(A) tail.
  • Step 3: RNA splicing: introns are eliminated from the pre-mRNA via way of means of the activity of a complicated referred to as the spliceosome.

The spliceosome is made of proteins and small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) that associate to form protein-RNA enzymes referred to as small nuclear ribonucleoproteins or snRNPs (reported SNURPS).
