What are the damped vibrations? How do they differ from the free vibrations? Give one example of each.
The periodic vibrations of a body of decreasing amplitude in presence of a resistive force are called damped vibrations. E.g. A simple pendulum oscillating in air.
On the other hand, free vibrations are periodic vibrations of a body in the absence of any external force on it. E.g. A simple pendulum oscillating in vacuum.
