Group A elements: The elements that have similar reactivity and chemical properties are known as Group A elements. The important features of Group A elements are described below:
Group A elements are the main group elements that are distributed into eight groups such as IA, IIA, IIIA, IVA, VA, VIA, VIIA, and VIIIA.
The elements in Group IA are known as alkali metals.
The elements belonging to Group IIA are called alkaline earth metals.
The elements from Group VIIA are considered halogens.
The elements of Group VIIIA are known as noble gases or inert gases.
In the main group elements, the number of valence electrons is equal to the group number. For example, Group IA elements have one electron in their outermost shell and the Group number is also 1.
These are reactive and non-metallic.
They do not have the full set of electrons in their valence shell except in group 18.
