Tonsils:
- Tonsils are the masses of lymphoid tissues implanted in the mucous membranes of the pharynx.
- It is covered by epithelium, with crypts.
- These crypts typically have bacteria, food debris, and dead WBCs.
There are three main sets of tonsils:
- Pharyngeal tonsils: Present on the walls of the pharynx behind the nasal cavity.
- Lingual tonsils: Present on each side of the root of the tongue.
- Palatine tonsil: Present at the posted margin of the oral cavity.
- Tubal tonsil: is located posterior to the opening of the Eustachian tube on the lateral wall of the nasopharynx.
