Local earthing:
An essential safety measure to send current to the ground in case of high- voltage by connecting the copper wire to the copper plate buried inside the ground.
Procedure
i. A hole is dug
2–3 meters deep in the
ground.
ii. A copper rod is put into a hollow insulating
pipe and inserted in the hole.
iii. The lower end of the copper rod is welded
with a thick copper plate and lowered to the
ground.
iv. Good contact between the plate and the earth
is necessary hence, the plate is surrounded by
a mixture of charcoal and salt.
v. The ground where the copper rod is inserted
has to be kept damp hence, at regular interval
watering is done.
vi. The connection is made between the upper
end of the copper rod and the earth
connection at the kWh meter.
