Solution

Neuron:

  1. The neuron is the structural and functional unit of the nervous system.
  2. Neurons are capable of detecting, receiving, and transmitting a variety of inputs.
  3. With tiny hair-like projections emerging from its terminals, the neuron resembles a little tree.
  4. The three major parts of this microscopic structure are the cell body, dendrites, and axons.
  5. Nissl's granules are found in dendrites, which are small filaments that branch frequently and extend from the cell body.
  6. The axon is a branching fiber with a long distal end.
  7. Each branch ends in a synaptic knob, a bulb-like structure that houses synaptic vesicles that contain neurotransmitter molecules.
  8. Nerve impulses are transmitted from the cell body to a synapse or a neuromuscular junction through axons.
  9. Myelinated and non-myelinated axons are the two types of axons.
  10. Schwann cells surround myelinated nerve fibers, forming a myelin sheath surrounding the axon.
