Question

What does XY plane mean?

Open in App
Solution

2D geometry XY Plane:

  • The XY plane is a two-dimensional plane that helps to mark the position of a 2-D object.
  • The x-coordinate is called as abscissa and the y-coordinate is called as ordinate.
  • The coordinate of a point is represented as x,y.
  • The position of all points is determined with respect to the origin whose coordinates are 0,0.

The axes divide the plane into four quadrants.

  1. In the first quadrant, both xand the yvalues will be positive. All points will be of the form x,y.
  2. In the second quadrant, xvalue is negative and the yvalue is positive. All points will be of the form -x,y.
  3. In the third quadrant, both xand yvalues will be negative. All points will be of the form -x,-y.
  4. In the fourth quadrant, xvalue will be positive and the yvalue will be negative. All points will be of the form x,-y.

Hence, the meaning of XY Plane is explained.
