Chromosomes:

  1. Chromosomes are the thread-like structures composed of the DNA and other proteins.
  2. They are present in the every cell of the body and carries the genetic information needed for that cell to develop.
  3. Loss or gain of one or more chromosomes is referred as aneuploidy.
  4. If a person has one chromosome more than the 46 chromosomes then it is said to be trisomy.
  5. Examples of trisomy are Down syndrome which is a genetic disorder that leads to various physical and mental disabilities.
  6. It is due to presence of an extra chromosome 21.
