Question

What happens when diodes are in parallel?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Connecting a diode in parallel increases the current carrying capacity of the diode
  2. Parallel connection of diode says that the diodes are connected across each other sharing a common point.
  3. Current differs across each diode, but the diodes have the same voltage drop.
  4. To make the current across the diode same inductors are connected.
  5. There is no conduction in the resultant diodes on both sides.
  6. If the load current is greater than the diode current, the number of diodes connected can be increased.
  7. When diodes of different forward characteristics are connected, the diodes connected in parallel will not have the same current.
