Reaction of white phosphorus with conc. $N a O H$

When white phosphorus is heated with the concentrated $N a O H$ solution in an inert atmosphere of $C O_{2}$ , phosphine $(P H_{3})$ and sodium hypophosphite $(N a H_{2} P O_{2})$ is formed.

This reaction can be given as –

$P_{4} + 3 N a O H + H_{2} O \to 3 N a H_{2} P O_{2} + P H_{3}$
