Question

What happens when zinc reacts with copper sulphate solution?

Open in App
Solution

Zinc (Zn) is more reactive than copper (Cu), therefore it can displace Cu from aqueous copper sulfate(CuSO4) solution. In this process, the blue color of (CuSO4) changes to a colorless ZnSO4 solution.

Balanced reaction

Zn(s)+CuSO4(aq)ZnSO4(aq)+Cu(s)CoppersulfateZincsulfate

This reaction is also known as a single displacement reaction.
