Any atom that bears charge is called charged atom or ions.
Charged atoms are formed by the loss of electrons or gain of electrons by a neutral atom.
Types:
If it is positively charged or has a positive charge then it is called cation i.e,

If it is negatively charged or has a negative charge then it is called an anion .i.e,

Cations are formed when a neutral atom loses its one or two electrons.
Anions are formed when a neutral atom gains one or two electrons from another atom.
