Charged atom:

  1. Any atom that bears charge is called charged atom or ions.
  2. Charged atoms are formed by the loss of electrons or gain of electrons by a neutral atom.

Types:

  1. If it is positively charged or has a positive charge then it is called cation i.e, Na+,K+ etc.
  2. If it is negatively charged or has a negative charge then it is called an anion .i.e, Cl-,F-,etc.
  3. Cations are formed when a neutral atom loses its one or two electrons.
  4. Anions are formed when a neutral atom gains one or two electrons from another atom.
