Question

What is a convex quadrilateral?

Open in App
Solution

A convex quadrilateral is a four-sided polygon that has interior angles that measure less than 180 degrees each. The diagonals are contained entirely inside of these quadrilaterals. Convex quadrilaterals can be classified into several sub-categories based on their sides and angles. A convex quadrilateral is cyclic if and only if opposite angles sum to 180.
Example:

If we look at the above diagram, all four angles of the quadrilateral are less than 180 and two diagonals also lies completely inside the figure. So the above quadrilateral is convex quadrilateral.

Where as if we look at the following diagram:

Here, we can observe that the one angle is more than 180 and also one of the diagonal lies outside the quadrilateral.
So, the above figure is called as concave quadrilateral.
