Question

What is absolute motion?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Absolute motion: An absolute motion is defined as the change of position of a body from one absolute place to another. On the contrary, a relative motion is a change in the position of the body from one relative place to another.
  2. The rest and motion of a body are said to be absolute if the reference point is itself at rest.
  3. Generally, we take the reference point to be a point connected with the earth(a point on a wall, tree, road, etc), Since the earth is constantly moving around the sun, these points are not at rest.
  4. Therefore absolute rest and absolute motion are not, practically possible.
