Dielectric substance:

  1. The dielectric material is the substance that becomes polarized under the influence of an external electric field.
  2. They are essentially insulators with no free electrons. When an electric field is supplied to a dielectric, it is readily polarised.
  3. The dielectric substance induces an electric current throughout the opposite direction or orientation of the external field, lowering the net electric field inside the dielectric material.
  4. The component that reduces the electric field somewhere in a substance is recognized as its dielectric constant.
