Electrolysis is a process in which electrical energy is converted into chemical energy.
Example- The breakdown of Water

into Hydrogen and Oxygen with use of electric current .
There are two electrodes are used in electrolytic cell Anode(positively charged) and Cathode(negatively charged).
This process is commercially useful as it helps in extraction of Metals from their ores.
