Solution

Mitochondria

  1. It is a cell organelle present in the eukaryotic cell.
  2. Each mitochondrion is a double membrane-bound structure, with the outer and inner membranes partitioning the lumen into two different aqueous compartments, the outer and inner compartments, respectively.
  3. The matrix is a solid, homogeneous substance that fills the inner compartment.
  4. A series of infoldings called cristae is present on the inner membrane.
  5. The two membranes contain different sets of mitochondrial function-related enzymes.
  6. A single circular DNA molecule, a few RNA molecules, and a few other molecules make up the matrix.
  7. Aerobic respiration takes place in mitochondria.
  8. They are known as the 'power homes' of the cell because they produce cellular energy in the form of ATP.
