- During ancient India, trading happened through two routes: sea and land.
- Sea trade was only possible for South India.
- Due to geographical limitations land route was possible in North India.
- The land route which passed through Afghanistan, Central Asia, and Western Asia was known as Silk Route.
- It was the major land route that connected China and Europe.
- It was called as Silk Route because silk was the major item traded between Asian and European countries.
- Later sea routes became more popular.
