Question

What Is TCA Cycle in Biochemistry?

Open in App
Solution

TCA Cycle:

  1. TCA cycle is a set of enzyme-catalyzed processes that results in full oxidation of the acetyl CoA produced from glucose, fat, and protein catabolism.
  2. In aerobic species, it is second phase of cellular respiration following glycolysis.
  3. Carbon dioxide, ATP, and reduced NADH and FADH2 are produced, which are then oxidized in the electron transport chain to yield a significant number of ATP molecules.
  4. It's also known as the Krebs cycle or the citric acid cycle.
