Solution
Respiratory system:
The respiratory system is a set of organs and tissues that are responsible for the exchange of gases in animals and plants.
It includes organs like the nose, trachea, breathing muscles (the diaphragm and the intercostal muscles), and most importantly the lungs.
Lungs are the main respiratory organs and are composed of bronchi, bronchioles, and alveolar sacs.
Bronchi are the passages that go into the lungs, bronchioles are tiny tubes that branch out from bronchi and alveolar sacs are tiny pockets that are at the end of bronchioles.
The whole bronchial tree will move within the lung when the volume of the lung varies with the thoracic cavity during breathing (respiration).
Functions of bronchi:
They help to warm, moisturize and clean the inhaled air before distributing it to the lung's gas-exchanging zone.
These are lined with ciliated cells and many interspersed mucus-secreting goblet cells, which are characteristic of the respiratory epithelium.
