Question

What is the half life of a chemical reaction?

Open in App
Solution

For a chemical reaction:
RP
The half-life is defined as the time in which the concentration of the reactant (R) is reduced to half of its initial concentration [R0]. It is represented as t1/2
Time t=0, [R]=[R0]
and for, t=t1/2
[R]=[Rt1/2]
By definition, [Rt1/2]=12[R0]
where [R0]= initial reactant concentration i.e. at t=0
