Open in App
Solution

Ozone layer

  • The ozone layer is one of the layers present in the earth's atmosphere, between 15to30Km above the surface.
  • The ozone layer is mainly found in the lower portion of the stratosphere.
  • The ozone layer helps living organisms from the ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Ozone layer depletion

  • Ozone layer depletion is the thinning of the ozone layer present in the upper atmosphere.
  • Chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs are the main cause of ozone layer depletion.
  • UV rays degrade the chlorofluorocarbon molecules in the stratosphere and release chlorine atoms as a result. Ozone is destroyed when these atoms interact with it.

  • Ozone layer depletion causes increased UV radiation levels at the Earth's surface, which is damaging to human health.
  • The ozone layer can degrade in the presence of chlorofluorocarbons.
