Implantation:

  1. The attachment of the blastocyst to the uterine endometrium is referred to as implantation.
  2. This happens at the Blastocyst stage, around a week after ovulation.
  3. Within 24 hours of fertilisation, the cell in the fallopian tube begins to divide and proliferate.
  4. A zygote is a detachable multicellular entity.
  5. After 3-4 days, it moves to the uterus and is known as an embryo.
  6. The embryo grows and passes through different phases before attaching to the endometrial layer of the uterus.
  7. This attaching procedure is called implantation.

Site for implantation:

  1. The dorsal wall of the uterus is the usual location of implantation.
  2. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when the conceptus implants or attaches itself to a site other than the typical one in the upper uterine cavity lining.
  3. The site of implantation may be at an aberrant place within the uterus or outside of the uterus.
