A fuse is a piece of wire having very low melting point, that melts and breaks the circuit as soon as its temperature gets higher than its melting point.
Before connecting the cable from pole to the meter in a house, a fuse is connected to the live wire at the pole. This fuse is called the pole fuse (or company fuse). Pole fuse has a high rating of 50A. The rating of the fuse depends on the load for which connection has been issued by electricity supply company.
