Sertoli Cells:

  1. Sertoli cells, also called nurse cells, are part of the seminiferous tubule.
  2. The seminiferous tubules are long coiled structures located in the testes.
  3. Sertoli cells nurture the developing sperm and secrete a variety of products into the blood and the lumen of seminiferous tubules.
  4. The seminiferous also consists of other types of cell types such as spermatogonia, which are stem cells, and spermatocytes which divide by meiosis to form sperms.
  5. Sertoli cells secrete various proteins such as androgen-binding protein and also hormones
  6. These cells also produce enzymes that convert testosterone to estrogen.
