Question

What types of bonds are present in hydrogen chloride? write its chemical formula

Open in App
Solution

Chemical formula

  • A chemical formula is used to represent the constituent atoms present in a molecule and the ratio of atoms in it.

Hydrogen chloride

  • The chemical formula of hydrogen chloride is HCl
  • In HCl, there is only one bond between hydrogen and chlorine. it's a polar covalent bond.
  • In a covalent bond, electrons are shared between the constituent atoms of the molecule.
  • Here the electrons are shared between chlorine and hydrogen. both chlorine and hydrogen share 1 electron between them.
  • The chlorine atom is more electronegative than hydrogen hence the shared pair of electrons slightly shifts towards the electronegative atom chlorine, hence the bond becomes polar.
  • H-Cl
