When a galvanometer is shunted with a 4Ω resistance, the deflection is reduced to one - fifth. If the galvanometer is further shunted with a 2Ω wire, determine current in galvanometer now if initially current in galvanometer is I0 (given main current remain same).

Given: When a galvanometer is shunted with a 4Ω resistance, the deflection is reduced to one - fifth. Also initially current in galvanometer is I0
To find the current in galvanometer if the galvanometer is further shunted with a 2Ω wire
Solution:
When shunted with resistance of 4Ω, we get
I05×Rg=4I05×4, as given initial current is I0 andRg is shunt resistance
Rg=16Ω
When further shunted with 2Ω resistance, we get
I×16=(I0I)×43, where I is the required current after further shunting
12I=I0II=I13
is the required current.
