  1. Oogonium is an immature female reproductive cell that give rise to female gametes through the process of oogenesis.
  2. Oogonia are diploid cells formed from primitive germ cells.
  3. All primary oocytes are formed from oogonia that enter meiosis I and are arrested at prophase I.
  4. The completion of meiosis I results in the formation of secondary oocyte.

Oogonia or female gamete mother cells are located in the cortex part of the ovaries.
