Question

Which alcohol is the most acidic?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Alcohols are acidic due to the presence of polarity of O-H bond.
  2. The electron releasing group like CH3,C2H5 increases electron density on oxygen atoms which decreases the polarity of O-H bond.
  3. And thus acidic strength is also decreased.
  4. The acidity order is thus Primary alcohol > Secondary Alcohol > Tertiary Alcohol.
