Features of connective tissue:
Connective tissue links and supports other tissues. Consists of various cells with intercellular spaces containing material called matrix. Matrix of most connective tissues consists of protein fibres.
Blood:
Blood connects all organs of the body. Its matrix is fluid and contains free floating cells called the blood corpuscles. It transports various substances in the body through circulation.
Bone:
Bone is a skeletal connective tissue and has a tough matrix containing collagen fibres and salts of calcium and magnesium. The cells of the tissue are called osteocytes. Provides support to the body and a place for attachment of muscles.
Cartilage:
Cartilage is a semi rigid connective tissue containing many fibres of collagen. The cells are called chondrocytes. They are present between the bones and protect the joints.
