Question

Why is the force of attraction stronger than repulsion?

Open in App
Solution

Force:

  1. A push or pull that an object experiences as a result of interacting with another item are known as a force.
  2. When an object applies a force that pulls another object, it is a force of attraction.
  3. When an object applies a force that pushes another object away, it is a force of repulsion.

Forces acting on charged bodies:

  1. Like charges repel each other whereas unlike charges repel each other.
  2. The force of attraction between the like charges tends to bring like charges closer to each other i.e., tends to decrease the distance between them.
  3. The force of repulsion between the unlike charges tends to push unlike charges away from each other i.e., tends to increase the distance between them.
  4. The strength of force increases with a decrease in distance.
    F=Kq1q2r2F1r2
  5. Thus, the force of attraction is stronger than repulsion as it decreases the distance between bodies.

Thus, The force of attraction is stronger than repulsion.
