Solution

Definition of IUPAC names

IUPAC nomenclature of organic chemistry is a method of naming organic chemical compounds as recommended by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

Step 1

  • ‘Prop’ means continuous chain with the maximum number of carbon atoms, here the chain is having 3 carbon atoms:C-C-C

Step 2

  • There is 1 substituent (methyl group) at the second position: C-C(CH3)-C

Step 3

  • The suffix ‘ene’ suggests a double bond unsaturated carbon is present in 1 position:H2C=C(CH3)-CH3

Therefore, the structure is H2C=C(CH3)-CH3
