Solution

Odd numbers are those which aren’t divisible by 2.

Even numbers are those which are divisible by 2.

Now, u might be thinking, is 0 divisible by 2?

Try, adding two odd numbers, you’ll get an evennumber.

e.g. 3+5=8

Again, try adding two even numbers, you’ll get an even number.

e.g. 4+6=10

But if you add an odd with even, you’ll get an oddnumber.

e.g. 3+8=11

Consider 0 as an odd number. If you add an odd number with odd, the expected result must be even as seen above.

but, 0+3=3 (not even)

Now, take 0 as an even number. Add it to odd number, you’ll get an odd and adding it even number, gives you an even number.

i.e. 0(even)+3(odd)=3(odd) and 0(even)+2(even)=2(even)

Clearly, 0 is even.

So you can keep it as a thumb rule to see whether a number is even or odd. Just check the following:

odd+odd=even

even+even=even

odd+even=odd
