Solution

Pressure:

  1. The amount of force extended on a surface per unit area is defined as pressure.
  2. It can also be defined as the ratio of the force to the area.

A formula to represent the pressure:

P=ForceArea

A diagram to represent the pressure:

Instruments and Physical Principles of Measurement Parameter Pressure | Testo® India

  1. When Rohan is standing, the area of contact is much less than when Rohan is lying.
  2. This is because, from the formula of pressure, we can see that pressure is inversely proportional to the area.
  3. This means that the more the area is less will be the pressure, and if the area of contact is less the pressure will be more.
  4. Thus when Rohan is lying down he will apply less pressure, and when Rohan is standing he will more pressure on the ground.

Hence, Rohan will apply more pressure when standing than Rohan is lying down due to less area of contact.
