Solve the following:
$\frac{x}{5} = \frac{x - 1}{6}$

Solution

$\frac{x}{5} = \frac{x - 1}{6}$
We have to find the value of $x$
$\frac{x}{5} = \frac{x - 1}{6}$
On cross multiplication, we get
$6 \times x = 5 \times (x - 1) \Rightarrow 6 x = 5 x - 5$
On rearranging the terms and combining like terms we get
Transposing $5 x$ to RHS it becomes $- 5 x$
$6 x - 5 x = - 5 \Rightarrow x = - 5$
Hence, $x = - 5$ is the solution of given equation.
