Solution

The correct option is D

None of the options

Average momentum

  1. The average momentum of a molecule in the sample in an ideal gas is zero.
  2. We know momentum is defined as the product of the mass and velocity of the particle in motion.
  3. According to the kinetic theory of ideal gas, gas molecules are always in random motion.
  4. Due to this random motion, the average velocity will be zero because velocity is a vector quantity.
  5. Since velocity have direction when in random motion, all the components of velocity will cancel out each other, and it will be zero on average.
  6. Thus, the average momentum will also be zero.

Therefore, average momentum is independent of all the quantities mentioned in the options.

Option D is correct.
