  • A Lewis electron dot structure, also known as an electron dot structure, is a representation of an atom's valence electrons that uses dots : around the element's symbol.
  • The number of dots in the diagram represents the number of valence electrons in the atom.
  • These dots are put to the right and left of the symbol, as well as above and below it, with no more than two dots on each side.
  • Covalent bonds between atoms can be represented by dots : or dashes -.

  • On the periodic table, Oxygen O belongs to group 16.
  • The atomic number of Oxygen is 8.
  • The electronic configuration is as follows:

O=1s22s22p4

  • As a result, the valence electron in oxygen is 6.
  • The given molecule O2 is diatomic oxygen.
  • In the O2 molecule, there are 12 valence electrons.
