The Karnataka High Court directed Karnataka Examination Authority(KEA) to follow the suggested formula of the technical committee for KCET 2022 rankings. The formula will be applied to 2020-21 second-year pre-university exam-passed candidates.

The technical committee was headed by the Vice Chairman of the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, DR B Thimme Gowda. The committee suggested that “the qualifying marks of 2021 PU batch students shall be deducted by an average of 6 marks in Physics, 5 marks in Chemistry and 7 marks in Mathematics, that results in total deduction of 6 marks for 100 qualifying marks."

The deduction of an average of 6 marks from each subject of 2nd year PUC for 2020-21 passed out candidates will help in normalisation of their KCET 2022 rankings with 2021-22 passed out candidates.

The technical committee was constituted as per the order by the state Government of Karnataka. The committee consisted of Dr. B Thimme Gowda, Vice Chairman, Karnataka State Higher Education Council, N Ravichandran, Director, Technical Education, Prof S A Kori, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Andhra Pradesh, MRN Murthy, retired Dean of IISC, Bengaluru, and Professor of Emeritus at Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology, Prof N Yathindra.

The committee also suggested increasing seats in IT-related branches in Engineering colleges across Karnataka.

Previously, the High Court of Karnataka quashed the decision of KEA to not consider PUC marks for KCET 2022 ranking, following the uproar by KCET 2022 candidates regarding the decision taken by KEA.
