In WTO terminology, subsidies are given for agriculture ventures.It also includes the amounts spent on Government services such as research, disease control, and infrastructure and food security.
They are given traffic light colours like green, amber and red.
Green box refers to the subsidies that contain fixed payments to producers for environmental programs, so long as the payments are “decoupled” from current production levels.
The Green box subsidies are provided by governments through a variety of programmes like the provision of income support to farmers, food aid, research and development etc.
