The Great Indian Bustard is only found in India and Pakistan. In India Its stronghold was once the Thar desert in the north-west and the Deccan plateau of the peninsula.
But today, due to poaching and habitat destruction, it is only restricted to the Indian states of Rajasthan and Gujarat. It is placed in the critically endangered category of the IUCN.
