According to some sources, the original surname of B R Ambedkar was Ramji Sakpal. He was born in a Mahar family, originally hailing from Konkan. His father registered his surname as Ambadawekar in the school. Later, his teacher, Krishnaji Keshav Ambedkar, changed his surname to Ambedkar.
